Dominika Pstrosova

Despite various proposals and encouragements from fashion experts she stumbled upon in the street, Czech charmer Dominika Pstrosova never thought of or saw herself as a model earlier in life. Born in Ceská Lípa, the statuesque beauty finally accepted an offer from a Parisian agent at age eighteen, while living in Prague.
Since that moment on, Pstrosova has travelled the world and booked numerous fashion jobs, ranging from print to runway shows. Represented by some of the most prestigeous agencies in the fashion industry's main cities, the 5'11" (180cm) tall brunette has all it takes to make it big.
After all, she is from the land that gave the world such eminent supermodels as Eva Herzigova, Karolina Kurkova and Hana Soukupova, among many others.

Did you always wanted to be a model, or did you stumble upon it, get discovered etc.? Who or what inspired you to become a model? How did you get started in the modeling business?

When I was fourteen I was very skinny and the only thing you could see were my arms and legs. I honestly did not think I could be a model. But lot of people from fashion industry started to stop me more and more with different offers. Finally when I was 18 I said yes to agent from Paris and I left to Paris where I signed my first contract.

What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about being a model? What do you like least?

I love travel and meeting new people and know new places, it gives you a lot of experiences and in this way you can learn a lot of languages very easy, when I started I spoke only english, now I can speak another 3 languages.

What do you like least?

I like travel but I don't like to spend so much time in the plane and airport :). And the second thing what I don't like that much is the early hours. A lot of times I m going to sleep after work at twelve in the night and I need to wake up at three in the morning. I like to sleep at least 8 hours a day but sometimes I don't have a time for that, that's way in the weekend when I m usually not working I try to sleep a lot sometimes even 12 hours :).

Have you encountered any surprises along the way?

The surprises I'm living all the time and everywhere! :)

What has been your most awkward moment (of your modeling career)?

I can't remember some really awkward moment, I think I was lucky, because nothing that horrible happened to me.

What’s the funniest thing that happened to you on a photo shoot or fashion show?

I think I have bad luck :))) because always happened to me something, like last time when I made the fashion show for one client in Milan and the assistant who help us to dress up gave me the shoes but she didn't close the shoe with right button and when I was on the stage I Iost it. Then I was walking only with one. At least I never felt down! :)))

Out of all the places your career has taken you, where was the most memorable?

Every place where I ever was is memorable for me!

Who is your favorite photographer? Why?

Ellen Von Unwerth! I like her style, I love the mode in her photos! It's a mix of innocence, purity and sexuality.

What kind of photo shoots are the hardest for you?

Always the hardest shoots are those with animals or under the water. :))

Is there a difference in posing when you are doing a cover and an editorial?

Depend for what magazine. Covers is mostly one of the pic from editorial. The best one.

Is there an artistic or general difference in doing editorials/covers in Europe opposed to USA?

Sometimes, depend of the styling, clothes, location and the needs of photographer.

Did anyone in the industry ask you to change your look, name, etc… If so, what did you do?

Haha Good question. My Name!!! I have very difficult surname to pronounce it. Pstrosova. There was some discussion about to make my surname shorter, but in the end we said that it's that difficult that if people will try to pronounce it they need to do it lot of times and in this way they ll learn it (as some word in some strange language) and than they ll never forget it! :))))

What tips and advice do you have for aspiring models just starting out, something you wish someone would have told you?

Don't be scare of anything, your fear is your worst enemy! And do always all what you want to do, be good person and believe in the god!

Who are your favorite fashion designers?

I'm working with a lots of them and lot of them are my friends! I can't say only one, there is a lot of best!!! :)

What things in your wardrobe would you never throw away?

My jeans dp, my jacket prada and my bag chanel! :)

What are your best beauty secrets?

Collagen mask!

Do you have any beauty / skin care tips or tricks to look fresh and rested for early morning photo shoots?

As I mentioned in the previous question, my biggest secret is collagen, before the shoot, I put the mask on my face for 20 minutes. Sometimes I put it on my hair and on my body also. The great thing, effect of collagen will last for two whole days! The skin is smooth, unified and looks youthful. Has a lovely pink tinge and feel without the slightest wrinkle.
When I realized how much collagen do for the skin, I was so excited about the offer from one of the best company of medicament in USA who for I did the campaign last year, the offer to do the line of collagen with my name which I am using and I really recommend to everybody.

What is your favorite part about your body?

My legs and my lips.

How would you describe yourself as a human being in three words?

Simple, honestly and friendly.

What’s controversial or unique about you?

My origin :). My mother is from Russia and my father is from Brazil.

If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

Be immortal! :)

What would you like to change about yourself if you can choose only one thing?

I don't know now :). I'm quite comfortable with myself.
